Back to our list of fashion faux pas, next we will talk about the socks or tights with open toe shoes big no-no combination. This is definitely a rule to ditch. The cute contrast can add a little pop to your outfit and can look elegant if the color combination is well matched. Checkout some of the photos below. They look great!
Continuing from my previous post about fashion faux pas that we need to leave behind, today we talk about mixing prints and not matching shoes and bag. Mixing prints that are subtle usually work really well. Too many prints at once will be overwhelming. The trick is strategic planning. Polka dot and strips can work well. A small floral print dress with a striped sweater would look cute together. Even though we vote that mixing prints is an old fashion faux pas to leave behind, it is important to keep in mind that it does not mean that all prints go well together.
Another fashion faux pas is the not matching shoes and bag. In a lot of cases not matching can help add a little pop to your outfit. This is not saying that matching shoes and bag should be ditched. In some cases it can look super elegant to have matching shoes and bag. If the shoes and the bag have some super unique design/pattern/color combination and they are matching it can then look too matchy-matchy.
Use your best judgement and enjoy your outfits!
There are many fashion faux pas we hear about and a lot of times follow without really understanding why. In many cases, the outfit looks great and the colors do not clash but if it was black and brown or black and navy it was the end of the world or so we thought. Well, a lot of these so called “rules” are more or less very outdated and it is time to leave them behind. In the next few days, I will talk about these faux pas we should stop worrying about
A while back, I wrote about white after labor day, you can find it here. White goes anytime as long as you are not wearing summer clothes in the middle of winter.
The next contenders are the black and navy as well as black and brown mix. Black and brown go great together. I have no idea why this was considered a faux pas to begin with. As the images (from pinterest) below show, black and brown can create a beautiful contrast for a fun outfit. Then there is black and navy. For the most part, I think black and navy go beautifully together. It can be super chic. There is one occasion where I can see it being awkward when the navy is dark to the point where unless you are in direct light you cannot tell if it is black or navy. Have a blast creating fun outfits with these color combinations!
