Buying same clothes in different colors?

Share Button

Many times I ask myself does it make sense to buy the same clothing item in different colors. For the longest time, I never did and I almost opposed it. However, when my favorite pair of jeans were worn out, finding a replacement was always difficult. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that it doesn’t really matter. When I find a pair of jeans that are absolutely perfect… well then I’m going to buy at least two in different washes; and if the jeans were super perfect, then I will be getting two in my favorite wash as well. It sounds crazy, but I have the hardest time finding a good pair of jeans. In addition to jeans, I find essential items like sweaters or layering or under blazers and other items, are usually ok to get the same in different colors if they feel great and you love the fit.

On the other hand, I find it very difficult to buy the same bag in different colors, even something as practical as ‘Le Pilage’ by Longchamp. I think I would get bored of the bags quickly and would want something different.

Would you buy the same item in different colors?

Mixing hardware and jewelry color fashion faux pas to ditch

Share Button

Mixing Silver and Gold was a big no-no, but not anymore. This fashion faux pas rule is much more lax. Sometimes we feel obliged to match our wedding rings or handbag and shoes hardware. This is definitely something to not worry about and especially the wedding or engagement ring. When jewelry is stacked and the pieces go well together regardless of the color then it will work out beautifully. If the pieces don’t go well together whether they are the same color or not, they will not work. You do not have to mix the colors if it is not something you are comfortable with. I used to match all my hardwares from shoes to bag to jewelry, and even though I still like to do that sometimes depending on the outfit and the occasion, I feel much better about mixing the colors for most of my outfits. It really helps if some pieces of jewelry were two tone or three tone pieces like some of the ones shown below.

Fashion faux pas, peep toe and tights

Back to our list of fashion faux pas, next we will talk about the socks or tights with open toe shoes big no-no combination. This is definitely a rule to ditch. The cute contrast can add a little pop to your outfit and can look elegant if the color combination is well matched. Checkout some of the photos below. They look great!

Mix prints and not matching shoes and bag Fashion faux pas

Share Button

Continuing from my previous post about fashion faux pas that we need to leave behind, today we talk about mixing prints and not matching shoes and bag. Mixing prints that are subtle usually work really well. Too many prints at once will be overwhelming. The trick is strategic planning. Polka dot and strips can work well. A small floral print dress with a striped sweater would look cute together. Even though we vote that mixing prints is an old fashion faux pas to leave behind, it is important to keep in mind that it does not mean that all prints go well together.

Another fashion faux pas is the not matching shoes and bag. In a lot of cases not matching can help add a little pop to your outfit. This is not saying that matching shoes and bag should be ditched. In some cases it can look super elegant to have matching shoes and bag. If the shoes and the bag have some super unique design/pattern/color combination and they are matching it can then look too matchy-matchy.

Use your best judgement and enjoy your outfits!

Fashion faux pas that need to go

There are many fashion faux pas we hear about and a lot of times follow without really understanding why. In many cases, the outfit looks great and the colors do not clash but if it was black and brown or black and navy it was the end of the world or so we thought. Well, a lot of these so called “rules” are more or less very outdated and it is time to leave them behind. In the next few days, I will talk about these faux pas we should stop worrying about :)

A while back, I wrote about white after labor day, you can find it here. White goes anytime as long as you are not wearing summer clothes in the middle of winter.

The next contenders are the black and navy as well as black and brown mix. Black and brown go great together. I have no idea why this was considered a faux pas to begin with. As the images (from pinterest) below show, black and brown can create a beautiful contrast for a fun outfit. Then there is black and navy. For the most part, I think black and navy go beautifully together. It can be super chic. There is one occasion where I can see it being awkward when the navy is dark to the point where unless you are in direct light you cannot tell if it is black or navy. Have a blast creating fun outfits with these color combinations!

This fall, black and white are the latest trend. Not to say that they ever really go out of trend because there is nothing like a black and white outfit to look well put-together. What makes it even better, not much to worry about what accessories will go with it because it is passe partout.
